Recycled brick courtyard with epoxy gravel centre

This courtyard needed to work harder; be more functional, easier to maintain, and visually resolved year-round.

We removed the existing paving and rebuilt the space with hand-pointed recycled-brick raised garden beds around a circular epoxy-gravel centre. Drainage was designed to flow toward the central zone, with additional detailing at the garage threshold to properly handle water.

One practical consideration shaped the layout throughout: the family dog. The finished courtyard is simple to hose down, the raised beds create clearly defined zones, including a dedicated toileting area — and nothing about the overall look was compromised to get there.
